Your holiday at Lake Millstätter See
Summer holidays in a lakeside hotel
When you step out onto the balcony in the morning, blink into the morning light and see the tranquil waters of the lake glittering in front you, your day has already got off to a great start. From any part of our hotel, the view of the lake and its beautiful shoreline is always there.
Its crystal-clear, warm lakes, embedded in a gentle mountain landscape and favoured by its Mediterranean-style climate, make Carinthia a popular summer holiday destination. Lake Millstätter See is Carinthia’s second-largest lake after Lake Wörthersee and also holds the largest volume of water of any Carinthian lake. From swimming, diving, and fishing, to water sports such as water skiing, wakeboarding, and canoeing: Lake Millstätter See, Carinthia’s natural gem, has something for everyone, in addition to its crystal-clear water that is pure enough to drink.
One of Carinthia’s warmest swimming lakes
In Carinthia, summers and bathing seasons are long: Protected by mountain in the north, warm air from the Mediterranean flows to Austria’s southernmost province unobstructed, making for a long swimming season that often starts in May at Lake Millstätter See and stretches way into September. At the height of summer, the lake reaches up to 27 degrees, attracting lots of visitors to its beaches and coves. Guests at the Seeglück Hotel Forelle enjoy access to our private beach with a large sunbathing lawn and shady fruit trees, all for the exclusive use of our hotel guests. The perfect setting for a relaxing day by the lake!
Water sports at Lake Millstätter See
You prefer a more active approach to enjoying the lake? Try canoeing along its shoreline or contact the water ski schools to try wakeboarding, water skiing and mono skiing, or rent a pedal or motorboat. The choice is yours! In the afternoon, the wind tends to pick up, making sailing and windsurfing possible. Divers also enjoy the steep shoreline: Lake Millstätter See reaches a depth of 141 metres. If you opt for diving, there is a varied underwater landscape to discover. Contact one of the diving stations on the lakeshore for guided dives, taster sessions and equipment rental. If you would like to explore the lake at a leisurely pace, opt for one of the lake cruises that start in Millstatt.
A holiday between mountains and lakes
Spending a holiday at Lake Millstätter See in Carinthia doesn’t just include outdoor activities based around the lake, but also around mountains. The lake lies at an altitude of 600 metres, with a high plateau that surrounds it just 200 metres higher up. And just a short distance away, the first 2,000-metre peaks beckon. Cycling and mountain biking, hiking, climbing or a game of golf in Millstatt – your summer holiday offers lots of opportunities for getting active.
